Water hygiene · Legionella control

Legionella control you can defend. To your client, your auditor and your insurer.

We assess, monitor, sample and remediate domestic water systems, cooling towers and evaporative condensers to ACoP L8 and HSG274. Every task is recorded against a governed standard, so you can show what was done, when and by whom.

What we do

Everything a duty holder needs, under one standard.

Legionella risk assessment

Site surveys, schematics and written risk assessments, with a clear remedial action plan.

Written schemes of control

Schemes written or reviewed so they match the system as built and as operated.

Monitoring and sampling

Temperature monitoring, outlet flushing, TMV servicing and Legionella sampling through UKAS accredited labs.

Remedial works

Dead leg removal, tank refurbishment and TMV replacement.

Chlorination and disinfection

Disinfection of new and existing pipework, tanks and vessels to BS 8558 and BS EN 806.

Cooling towers and evaporative condensers

Risk assessment, water treatment, monitoring, sampling, cleaning and disinfection to HSG274 Part 1.

Treatment equipment

Automatic dosing, monitoring and point of entry ultrafiltration for domestic water systems, supplied, installed and maintained.

Healthcare

Water safety group support and compliance with HTM 04-01.

Governance gaps

Most compliance failures are governance failures.

01

Missing or out of date schemes

A written scheme that no longer matches the building is the most common gap we find.

02

Too many hands

Tasks split across several subcontractors, each with its own records and standards.

03

Results nobody reads

Certificates filed without anyone deciding what they mean or what happens next.

We close those gaps first, then bring the routine tasks under one standard, delivered by Select or by your own trained team.

Self delivery

Take tasks in house without losing oversight.

With WaterGuard, your own engineers can carry out routine tasks and take samples, while our competent persons review the results and act on every failure. Lower cost, tighter control, the same expert oversight.

Questions we get asked

Common questions.

Something else? Ask one of our engineers.

How often should a Legionella risk assessment be reviewed?

ACoP L8 says the risk assessment should be reviewed regularly and whenever there is reason to think it is no longer valid, for example after changes to the system, how it is used or who is responsible for it. Many duty holders also set a fixed review date as a backstop.

What temperatures should hot and cold water be kept at?

HSG274 Part 2 sets hot water storage at 60°C or above, with outlets reaching at least 50°C within one minute (55°C in healthcare premises). Cold water should be below 20°C within two minutes of running.

Who is responsible for Legionella control?

The duty holder, usually the employer or the person in control of the premises. They must appoint a competent Responsible Person to manage the risk day to day.

Do you look after cooling towers?

Yes. We carry out risk assessments, water treatment, monitoring, sampling, cleaning and disinfection of cooling towers and evaporative condensers to HSG274 Part 1. Sites with cooling towers must also notify their local authority.

Can our own engineers carry out the monthly tasks?

Yes. With the right training and WaterGuard governing the work, your team can carry out routine tasks and take samples, with our competent persons reviewing every result and failure.
